About Huntington Youth Bureau

The Town of Huntington Youth Bureau is a comprehensive system of contracted programs, services and agencies for youth and families in the Town of Huntington.  The Huntington Youth Bureau is a model system and was the first Youth Bureau in New York State to offer such coordinated services. The non-for-profit arm of the Huntington Youth Bureau is The Huntington Youth Bureau Youth Development Research Institute, Inc. (The Institute). The Institute was established in 1979, and has as its primary goal the creation, promotion and implementation of programs and services, which stresses youth development and meets the expressed and demonstrated needs of youth and their families in the Town of Huntington. Our projects include: Huntington Drug & Alcohol Counseling Center (HDACC)- a comprehensive drug and alcohol counseling, treatment, education and prevention provider; Project Excel- the quintessential youth development project, helping youth excel in school, at home, in the workplace and in the community through arts, community service, tutoring, college prep, job help and training; Huntington Youth Court-with restorative justice as the foundation, trains youth to be the lawyers, judges, jurors in a court for, of and by youth; Huntington Sanctuary Project- a program which offers prevention services, crisis intervention, temporary housing and counseling for runaway and at risk youth; and Community and Schools Together (C.A.S.T.), (a joint project of The Institute and Tri Community and Youth Agency), a violence prevention and family strengthening program.

In addition to special townwide projects, the Huntington Youth Bureau system includes three neighborhood-based community and youth agencies (CYAs). These CYAs (Tri Community and Youth Agency, Youth Directions and Alternatives, and REACH Community and Youth Agency) provide a broad spectrum of services, ranging from counseling to after-school, weekend and summer cultural and recreational activities. Each CYA is a private, non-profit community-based organization, overseen by a Board of Directors that is composed of both youth and adults and represents the diverse needs, cultures and interests of the community. The Huntington Youth Bureau system also includes a shared partnership with Family Service League called FACILE, which stands for and provides Family Advocacy, Crisis Intervention and Life Education.
